Shinnecock Nation Gaming Authority Engages Ecologists and Engineers to Conduct Studies for Westwoods Indian Gaming Facility

SHINNECOCK INDIAN RESERVATION - In keeping with the Shinnecock heritage and centuries-old stewardship of the land, Fred Bess, President of the Gaming Authority said, "This is the only way to proceed. Our Indian gaming facility will be an environmental model for others in the community to follow."
  • Dru Associates, Inc., led by Dr. Ronald W. Abrams of Glen Cove, New York, will handle ecological issues. The company has a long and impressive history of conducting ecological studies of sensitive land areas planned for development including for the State of New York. The company will also be responsible for on-site monitoring of any work taking place at the site.

  • Divney, Tung, Schwalbe, LLP, has an equally credible background, and will be responsible for planning and engineering studies for the site. The company will also conduct a traffic study plan for Westwoods.
"Among our top priorities is a direct access road to Westwoods from Sunrise Highway, built at our expense," said Mr. Bess. "However, this would require the cooperation of both State and Town officials in order to move this plan along expeditiously." Mr. Bess stated that he would look forward to meeting with officials to discuss a traffic plan.
