Shinnecock Leader Questions
Credibility of Group for South Fork’s
Poll Florida Pollster has Atlantic City Ties Shinnecock Indian Reservation - Shinnecock Indian Nation Tribal Trustee Lance Gumbs today released the following statement regarding a poll commissioned by the Group for the South Fork. “In August we thought Mr. Deluca was using the issue of gaming as a platform to advance his own political agenda. Now, I wonder if the Group for the South Fork is being used as a front for Atlantic City casino interests? According to the Florida pollster’s Web Site, they represent Starwood (owner of Caeser’s Palace), Harrah’s Casino, Church Hill Downs and Carnival Hotels and Casinos as its clients. How can you believe the results? The poll has no credibility.” In addition, Mr. Gumbs referred to Mr. DeLuca’s so called development options for our Nation as “thoughtless, broadly explained, lacking any real detail, and in some cases, illegal.” #####
The Shinnecock Indian Nation is one of the longest, continuously self-governing Tribes in the country. The 1,500-member State recognized Tribe believes that revenues from a gaming facility will help bring true self-reliance to the Shinnecock people and improve the quality of life.
